5 AI Cybersecurity Startups to Watch in 2018

Last year was a year that was very focused on accelerating the use of artificial intelligence (AI), and this year will be no different. However, it’s AI cybersecurity startups that are all set to turn some heads this year. Here’s 5 of them to watch for in 2018:

PerimeterX: So far this startup’s raised over $34 million in funding since it was founded back in 2014. Its main goal is to prevent bot attacks from taking place using its AI cybersecurity platform. The way it does is by identifying non-human behaviours through the use of machine learning.

Cybereason: This AI startup was founded in Boston back in 2008 and is the beneficiary of massive investment from Japanese telecommunications firm SoftBank. Others that also have a stake in the business include Lockheed Martin and Spark Capital. This AI cybersecurity platform uses behavioral analytics to detect when an attacker is doing something.

Versive: This AI startup was previously trading under a different name – Context Relevant. Founded in 2012, the company has now secured a total of $57 million in funding. The way its AI platform works is by delving deep into a computer’s networks to distinguish what’s normal behavior and what may be suspicious. Any suspicious behaviours it finds is then compiled into what’s called a Threat Case which makes for easier monitoring and actioning.

Endgame: Another AI startup that’s been around a while. Endgame was founded in Arlington, Virginia back in 2008 and has raised around $111 million in funding so far. Originally the company made its money providing security services for the government. Now, the majority of its business comes from commercial clients including Texas A&M University.

Shape Security: Founded in 2011, this AI startup is definitely a force not to be reckoned with as its investors include the almighty Google among a host of other top players. Shape Security has raised $106 million to date and claims to have used that money to deflect over $1 billion in potentially fraudulent activities. There are two products on offer at Shape Security: Shape Defense and Blackfish. The first, Shape Security, provides protection against direct cyber-attacks. It continually improves its defenses over time by using machine learning. Blackfish is the company’s newest product and it was designed to detect stuffing attacks. If the AI detects this activity the attacker’s credentials are identified and validated across the network.
