Recently, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla revealed that the company’s next generation of hardware meant for self-driving would probably be rolled out by the start of next year.

In fact, during the latest earnings call, he touted praised the capabilities of the upcoming pilot hardware, which is expected to include an AI processor designed by Tesla. However, Musk did not disclose when the company would make the technology available to car owners.

In the recent days, Elon Musk has been quite vocal on Twitter. A recent tweet from him said that customers who have displayed commitment in paying more for Tesla’s full autonomous driving technology would get the new groundbreaking hardware at no cost.

In another tweet, he hinted that Tesla would provide the first software upgrade only for those who have purchased the complete autonomous driving option, particularly in the same period when the hardware hits the market.

While several other automakers depend on semiconductor chips from companies such as Nvidia and Intel, Tesla appears to be taking a different route. Also, the Wall Street Journal said that the Musk’s recent revelations on social media, mainly about taking Tesla private, have triggered an investigation by the SEC.
