Microsoft Cognitive Services prides itself as the home to the company’s hosted AI algorithms.
Recently, the global technology giant unveiled details about advancing several of its cognitive services tools such as Bing Entity Search, the Face API, and Microsoft Custom Vision Service.
In a Microsoft Blog Post announcing the upgrade, Joseph Sirosh, the man behind the company’s cloud artificial intelligence endeavours, defined Microsoft Cognitive Services as an assortment of cloud-hosted APIs that allow developers to add artificial intelligence features easily.
Some of these capabilities include language, vision, knowledge, speech, and search across devices and platforms like Windows, Android, and iOS.
In addition, he said that these capabilities are different from other Azure AI services, which are suitable for the DIY-types of developers, who are more hands-on when it comes to undertaking their work.
The enhancement to some of the cognitive service’s tools under Microsoft Cognitive Services aims at making such kinds of complex AI tools accessible, especially to developers and data scientists among other interested parties.
In fact, the upgrade endeavours to get rid of the usual heavy lifting needed for not only creating models but also attaining results through a wide array of testing phases, which are commonly involved in such processes.

To embark on the enhancement process, Microsoft is currently shifting its Custom Vision Service from free to paid preview.
This step marks the final phase before the advances can become available. According to Joseph Sirosh, this service assists developers in training a classifier by simply using their data.
In addition, the service aids developers in exporting the models and embedding such custom classifiers directly into their apps as well as running them offline on Android and iOS among many other devices in real-time.
According to Andy Hickl, the principal group program manager at Cognitive Services group said the Custom Vision Service is meant to assist companies in recognizing similar entities in an automated manner.
For instance, the tool will not only help to identify a given picture as just a dog but as one that belongs to a specific owner or even its particular type.
The Face API is available for use today. It can be leveraged in recognizing a given individual from a massive group of people through automated means.
Even so, its recent advancement will enable developers to form groups of a maximum of a million individuals.
To emphasize this remarkable achievement, Andy Hickl asserted that previous face recognition algorithms could only pinpoint only several faces accurately. Although such algorithms are still useful, they are not as scalable compared to the latest face recognition AI algorithms.
With the advanced Bing Entity Search Algorithm, embedding Bing search results in different applications will be easy for developers.
