AI Training for Car Giant Audi Employees

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the way forward for any industry. And now companies such as Audi are beginning to prepare their staff for what’s coming by putting them through AI training courses. It makes sense really. Why pay extra money hunting for a few individuals across the works that are really clued about AI when you can simply train your own staff?

The new Audi data camp focus on various aspects of AI, including big data. Intelligent robots, digital mobility services, and autonomous cars will all rely on these skills, so Audi is staying one step ahead. “In our areas of the digital future, the rapid development of new IT skills is a critical competitive factor. The topics of artificial intelligence and big data play a key role here,” stated Michael Schmid, Head of the Audi Academy.

It’s quite a comprehensive course and even those with no prior knowledge of programming will tackle issues such as machine learning an AI eventually. The big data qualification will also focus on agile project management through the use of various methods including prototyping, scrum, or design thinking. Each course is specifically tailored to the need of the individual student/employee.

On top of inhouse training, Audi uses the Udacity online platform to allow participants to take part in online learning projects and to ask any questions to the relevant Audi tutors. This type of learning would be done in conjunction with practical training the Audi students must commit to. Upon completion of the program the students/employee receives a nanodegree from the online platform that will relate to their specific area of expertise (i.e. a data analyst or a machine learning engineer).

“With purely online courses, the dropout rate is often very high,” said Schmid. “That’s why we decided in favor of a combination of the online courses offered by Udacity and presence courses here at Audi.” Moving forward, employees from all departments within Audi will gain big data qualifications which will help accelerate the company’s transformation into a digital car company.

Specific areas the qualifications will focus on include blockchain technology, machine learning in accounting, the analysis of large amounts of machine data, and the development of autonomous cars. Mobile learning is encouraged through the use of tablets and online learning while hands-on knowledge is gained through mandatory 10 hour a week presence courses.
